Yea Rangers!

Well not much to report. I haven't done anything stupid or completely embarassing in a couple of days. But tomorrow might be different. I have a tee time at 11am and I haven't practiced. As reported earlier in the week, I did watch some Youtube videos about golf swings. I also bought some whiffle balls to practice, but they are still in the bag.

My number one golf goal is to NOT look like an idiot. I've been watching the video below to help me memorize my new golf swing.

Dallas Sports - FC Dallas Soccer

So Ranger playoff tickets are pretty pricey, but guess what isn't? FC Dallas Soccer playoff tickets.

They made the playoffs. So anyhoo, I'll be going to see them. BONUS: I can walk to the game from my house.

http://www.fcdallas.com/

I haven't talked cooking much and today is probably not the day to do  it. So yesterday, it was cold in Texas. I ditched grilling steaks to make chili.

I made chili in the crock pot. I didn't have the usual ingredients so I made due with what I had on hand. Apparently this chili was NOT a hit. I used black beans in place of kidney beans, fire roasted tomatoes in place of tomato sauce and juice, and I spilled the paprika in there. So then, I attempted to outdo the paprika by adding more chili powder. So when you think it can't get worse, I made a beer bread but since I don't have a bread pan, I made muffins. The dogs ate them, but seriously, you could have used them as baseballs.

My boyfriend took me to hit some tennis balls last night. That is really hard for him to do since he's a pro and he has to deal with tennis morons or really good players all day long....so what's one more moron? Well at least he makes money off the other people. He gets nothing but cussing and panting from me.

Oh well, he was very patient with me. I've decided the 'real' tennis stroke is much like my golf stroke. Apparently, I've been hitting tennis balls wrong for years....with a baseball swing.

So tonight, going to grill up those steaks and watch the Rangers !!!!

Jealous of my young, single, kidless coworkers. They hopped in the car and are driving to St. Louis with the intention of buying standing-only room tickets. To be young again!!!!

Texas State Fair and It's Golf Time

So got up early Sunday and went to the Fair. Wow what a beating. Need foot massage now. My boyfriend had never been before so this was his first time. He said he was not a big fan of corny dogs. I was like "WHAT? No one goes to the state fair and passes on a corny dog".

Dave and Big Tex

We rode some rides, saw some shows, and I learned that a new Corvette is $77K....wow. I didn't know Chevrolets were so expensive. We were busy and missed the food pavilion, so I had to go online to find a video to see the 2011 butter sculpture. Hohum.

So it's supposed to get cold in Texas tomorrow. Time to pull out the sweats and put away the bathing suits and shorts...well maybe not just yet, but soon.

I haven't played golf in months and now that it is no longer 105 average temp...going to get back into it. My girlfriend and I are going to start slow and play 9 holes Saturday. So today I practiced by watching YouTube videos of swing analysis...not my own swing. Darn it. I left my swing videos behind in my divorce. Wish I had them now.Well anyway, I'm sure I'll have an awesome game, or at least an awesome day.

I did go to the driving range a couple of weeks ago and I was hitting the ball okay, so hopefully the bad habits have been lost for a while.

I hope everyone in Texas is enjoying our lovely weather.

It is Dangerous to Be Right when the Government is Wrong

By Judge Andrew P. Napolitano.....Wow what words do I use to describe this book? Enlightening and very scary.

Before reading the book, I was not familiar with Judge Napolitano’s ideas about government. I didn’t even get to the first chapter when I suddenly had an inkling of what this book might entail. This happened the precise moment when I read that the book was dedicated to Ron Paul, the man known for wanting to limit government control and protect our constitutional rights.

Judge Napolitano brings up great points and references showing how our constitutional rights are being trampled repeatedly. He doesn’t hold back on anyone. He criticizes Republican and Democrat presidents equally.

He makes some great points and backs it up with references. It was scary to learn how big the government has grown in its quest to protect each and every one of us equally while encroaching on our constitutional rights.

Judge Napolitano has some very controversial views. Let’s just start with a few of them. Organs (the kind tucked away in human bodies) should be bought and sold legally, gay marriages should be legal, drugs should be legal, prostitution should be legal. His logic is sound as far as measuring these laws against constitutional rights. Unfortunately his views are not very mainstream and may be alarming to some people.

After reading this book, I felt disturbed that the government disregards our constitutional rights, and at the same time, I was left with a helpless feeling. I think a book like this would be great for students learning about history, but I doubt any school would allow a book in the classroom that promotes legalizing drugs and prostitution. A quote straight out of the book “If you want to ingest drugs, the government should not stop you.”

I wish I had a video camera in my house sometimes

So I typically show up twice a week with my boyfriend's dog, Coco, who is a really super sweet Springer Spaniel. Billie Jean always comes to the front door when she hears us and then Coco walks in and gives BJ a nice wet doggy kiss. Well, she was so surprised Thursday morning. I walked in and she got her kiss and then realized it was not Coco, but an 80lb Rottweiler that she had never seen before.

The cat literally ran up a wall, got about a foot from the top, and fell straight down. Here is a picture of her after the fall. She was not so  happy.
It's been a few days now and they are sleeping in the same room, so I guess they are working out their differences.

Zena and Coco are getting along great and even go for a walk really well together. Here they are squirrel watching.

Hayley got her hair cut really short this year....so today, she is spending her money getting extensions. Can't wait to see this.

So no losses for the Cowboys this weekend. Okay it was a bye week, but whatever. The Rangers won...yeah, and my poor, poor Longhorns. Whew.

My new dog by default and that dang fake grandbaby

Well an interesting evening. The fake grandbaby cried a lot last night. My daughter should not be allowed to procreate. She is much like me.....no patience and we enjoy a good night's sleep. The baby goes back today....thank goodness.

So on another note. I get a new pet.....not by my own choosing. I have a cat, Billie Jean (born same month Michael Jackson died), a parakeet (Lucy.....Lucy in the sky with diamonds) and some fish (cant' remember their names). Now I get a Rottweiler.

My son's dog, Zena. He found her as a puppy and took her in. She is probably one of the few Rottweilers around that didn't have her tail bobbed since she's an orphan. Now I know why they bob the tails. It's because they wag continuously and weigh about 20 lbs and they knock everything over.

She is really sweet, extremely lazy, and good natured, but now I have a new task in life....poop duty. Cannot wait to see the lawn crew when they show up to mow and a Rottweiler is running around in the yard. I may  have to be at home that day.

I'm taking her in because my son's community doesn't allow 'vicious breeds'. This dog is too lazy to stand up when getting a drink of water. So much for working out today. I'll be driving 50 miles to go pick up my latest companion. Compared to the fake baby, she will be much easier to care for.

Anyway, I wish everyone a great day!

Fake Grandbaby Day, Rangers, and Bernanke

So today, I'm working at home. Hayley comes home and has a 'fake' microchipped baby with carrier. She has to take care of it for a class. My grandbaby is named Joquim, not sure about the spelling. He is crying and whining much like a real baby, but I don't think he is quite as loud and my own babies were. Thank goodness.
Me and my fake grand baby
He is soooooo like a real baby. He is screaming and we are checking diapers, rubbing belly, and then the bottle helped....this time. This baby is eating nonstop.

Anyway, had a relaxing day until the grandbaby showed up. The good news....because I'm working at home today, I have the Rangers game on AND they are winning!

As far as the stock market and economy.....yikes....I listened to Bernanke today. Boy was he a picture of gloom. Geez, even my gold and liquor stock is down today.  Those are my "bad" market day saviors on most days, but even they can't hold their own.

My first fishing tournament and we came in 2nd

So it was a great weekend for fishing and camping. My boyfriend and I caught about 30 fish. Unfortunately only 6 of them met the 14" and over requirement. The tournament limit was 5 fish, so we brought in 5 fish that weighed exactly 9 lbs. The first place winner fishes weighed 9.21....AGGGHHH. If only one of our fish was a little bit fatter. Anyway, the money paid for the weekend.

So my boyfriend tells me that he really likes fishing with me more than with his other fishing buddies. I'm thinking...well of course, I'm charming, good-lucking, and just fun to be around. Well he says that isn't the reason. It's because I have no fishing experience, so he gets to make all the decisions about where to fish. If he fishes with his buddies, they argue about where to fish, and they bring a lot of crap they'll  never use on his boat which makes it harder to get to the rods, bait, and things he needs. Hmmmm.

Much like when he told me he'd like to just date me because I'm seem pretty easy to get along with and going on new dates is just too stressful. Nice. He's a real  keeper with all the nice compliments. Wth?

So where I live, kids don't get out much. They have overprotective parents and stay inside most of the time. This weekend at the lake, there were a gazillion kids....minimum. Screaming, running, biking, flying kites, fishing, ghost stories, playing on the playground. They were loud and obnoxious and it was quite cathartic.

It reminded me of my own childhood. Back in the day when our parents threw us out the door in the morning and then looked for us about 9:30 in the evening. We hiked, rode bikes, fished, caught crawfish and snakes, played hide and seek, red rover red rover, rode go carts, and stayed out for hours.

So yesterday, watched my beloved Cowboys stink it up at the end of the game. Bummer.

On another note, if my daughter calls to tell me she skipped school BEFORE the school calls to tell me she skipped school, does that make it all better? She seems to think so.
